Grant for RHS Foods Classes

Billie Wilson, RHS Foods teacher, received a $1,500 grant from the NC Hospitality Education Foundation.  This is the third time in four years she has received this particular grant.  She plans to use it to purchase additional equipment for the lab and to participate in additional training programs that help her develop skills to share with her students.

PFES Community Service

Pisgah Forest Elementary School collected 1,506 canned goods during the month of March to donate to the Feinstein Challenge.  Fourth grade classes collected the most, with 364 cans total.  (They got an ice cream party.)  The school has begun collecting donations for April and hopes to do as well or better.  Feinstein Challenge gives the food to the local Sharing House, Salvation Army, and Bread of Life agencies, and in return receives money from the Feinstein Foundation to help defray the costs of Meals on Wheels.  A win-win for everyone.

The PFES Jump Rope for Hearts kids, supervised by Eileen Garvey, raised over $9,000 for the American Heart Association.

Pisgah Forest Math-a-Thon participants, supervised by Linda Locks, raised over $1,900 for St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.
