Session Law 2011-282, ratified on June 23, 2011, extensively changes the NC statutes governing student discipline. The legislative changes became effective when they were ratified and apply to all North Carolina school systems beginning with the 2011-2012 school year. The changes necessitate revising existing board policies and establishing some new board policies regarding student conduct, short- and long-term suspensions, and other local procedures prior to the first day of school. The following policies were presented for first-read information on July 18. Four policies, GCPA, GDPA, JFC, and JFCL, have been revised based on input from that meeting. All of the policies listed below are presented for action at this time. David Sutton will answer any questions you may have.
